About South Cumbria School Direct
South Cumbria School Direct is based at Furness Academy, Barrow-in-Furness and works in close collaboration with the Ripley ITT in Lancaster.
We offer 12 month Primary and Secondary programmes which give you PGCE and recommendation for QTS. The PGCE is awarded by Leeds Beckett University and includes 60 credits at Master’s level.
As a trainee teacher on the South Cumbria School Direct Programme you will spend a much greater proportion of time in school than you would on a traditional PGCE programme and the curriculum will be delivered by school expert practitioners working across our partnership.
This will facilitate much stronger links between theory and practice, enabling you to apply pedagogical knowledge in the classroom and reflect upon it more immediately.
Our partner schools are involved in the recruitment and selection of trainees and have a real commitment to their training.
Our trainees are highly valued and well supported at all stages of their training by expert practitioners and outstanding mentors.
They greatly enjoy the exciting and innovative curriculum which we have designed, and make excellent progress in our schools.

The South Cumbria School Direct secondary programme will be delivered by Ripley ITT based in Lancaster. Ripley ITT has a strong track record in Initial Teacher Training and is led by current and recent practitioners across the age phases working in close partnership with local schools to provide additional training expertise.
